This is probably going to be unpopular on here but today we've had the official first #Tesla Semi handed over to customers.

Not the first or only EV trucks but the only class 8 that will do 500 miles, and they have the hardware, charging infrastructure etc to back it up

Regardless of your views on Elon the world needs to stop burning diesel. Cant wait for trucks like this to replace the smog inducing toxic monsters we have already

@Rjdlandscapes I don’t like the guy, but I like the tech and possibilities.
@pwc I like clean air!

@pwc @Rjdlandscapes My thing is - Tesla has >100k people, produces by far the most BEVs, and is the only EV maker (at the very least outside of China) to produce mass-market EVs with *sustainable margins* (most make little, nothing, or lose money on their EVs. It has huge potential to be a force for good.

But in this great ship that is Tesla, the current captain is Joseph Hazelwood.

@Rjdlandscapes pretty impressive regen there!
@guysherman I guess a lot of potential energy in an 82,000 truck!
@Rjdlandscapes yeah and I dare say there a relatively low losses to wind resistance etc, given the inertia of the truck
@guysherman looks like it went abotu 50 miles using recovered energy on the downhill
@Rjdlandscapes yeah, I was mainly just looking at where the bends in the battery% ended up at the end of each downhill, and it looks like it pretty much returns to the trend line each time, so the hills aren’t really costing any extra. I guess trucks would often be engine breaking hard in those scenarios, so it kinda makes sense.
@Rjdlandscapes probably safer too right? No hot breaks to fail etc.
@guysherman Yep a lot less heat energy into the brakes so they wont fail
@Rjdlandscapes Agreed. EVs are the future. We just don't need billionaires.
@Rjdlandscapes I still believe in Tesla's mission even if its CEO is a pathetic, rightwing man-child prone to irrational and dangerous behavior. Moving away from fossil fuels requires the transportation industry to electrify as quickly as possible, and Tesla has been a crucial influence in that direction.
@Rjdlandscapes , if one cares about the speed at which fossil fuel is disrupted by sustainable energy, one should wish for Tesla to be successful.
@Thudhead @Rjdlandscapes I can hope for the successful transition to ev without being attached to a brand owned by an Nazi, enriching a Nazi.
@Rjdlandscapes I was once an Elon fan, but I still want this to work. Impressive results.
@Rjdlandscapes The Tesla Semi is going to revolutionize the industry. So happy it is finally shipping.

@Rjdlandscapes so how much does the truck weighs and what's the payload and what's the price for it?

This Tesla chart is nothing but bogus without these numbers considering that you can't calculate the profitability of it in the long-hauling business.

Don't let them fool you and sorry for being so straight forward about this. There's a reason why you don't see other long-haul Cat 8 e-trucks and that's not because Tesla has any secret sauce.

Peace!

@pallenberg estimated at about 26-27k lbs, it's fine.

@Rjdlandscapes

- who estimated this?
- with out without trailer?
- what's the weight of the battery?

And why can't I find these relevant specs incl. the price on the Tesla homepage?

I have a feeling that I know at least the answer to the last question, especially when you look back at their claims from 2017 that it would beat real.

Just another Tesla stockpump show and imho a massive fraud. Don't fall for it!

@pallenberg dude do you not have Google?

It doesn't matter what the weight of the battery is just how heavy the whole tractor unit is
