Today wasn’t all bad, I got several ridiculously sized #avocados
Can’t believe I had never heard of Bacon Avocados before!

Might keep the stones and try to get them to grow. Already have a couple among the #HousePlants , why not add a few more? Even if they will never fruit, it is kind of a neat plant to have around 🥑

@Lmosteller it's possible to fruit avocados in containers, especially if you leave them outdoors for most of the year, but you'll probably want to graft them instead of waiting for seedlings to fruit, which takes many years. Grafts can fruit within a couple years. I'd be happy to share scions next summer if you are interested in any of our grafted varieties!
@Lmosteller though I'll add that doesn't look quite like "Bacon" to me, it's a bit too large. Where did you get it? Here's the normal size for "Bacon" fruit, which we sourced direct from an avocado farm in CA, for rootstock seeds:

@drymifolia they came from Full Circle but they don’t mention the specific farm they came from.

I think I have 4 that have been growing for nearly 2 years - they do move outside during the warmer months (Seattle area) so now I am curious if they might fruit someday!

I’ll have to follow along and learn more about your grafts! That is really neat

@Lmosteller if you have a spot outdoors for potentially cold-hardy #avocado seedlings to be planted, feel free to sign up at the link in this account profile. Our 2023 trees are all already allocated, but there's a big batch of seeds starting now, which will be the Spring 2024 tree distribution. I'm also in Seattle!

@drymifolia Oh cool, I didn’t realize you were in Seattle too! Hello!

I will absolutely check it out, that sounds incredible. I’m on (almost) 2 acres so definitely have space!

@Lmosteller the website tries to give plenty of warnings that this is a long-shot breeding effort with a very small chance of any particular tree being able to survive in our climate, but the hope is if we sacrifice enough seedlings of hardy cultivars we'll find a few extra hardy ones that can make it here
