#OnThisDay, 1 Dec 1955, Rosa Parks does not give up her seat on the bus for a white passenger, and is arrested. Although not the first black woman to be arrested Parks' refusal is a key moment in the American civil rights movement.

@histodons @YusufToropov it’s a myth that tries to deny her agency as a political activist. She was secretary of the local NAACP and was trained in activism for workers rights and racial equality.

Immortalised too as asteroid 284996 Rosaparks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/284996_Rosaparks) and featured at the close of the wonderful Dr Who episode "Rosa" which reminded us all of Rosa's life and contributions.
