Wait.

The metaverse accounts for 20% of Meta's company costs!

Wow! This company is burning money like crazy!

Everyone is talking about Twitter's implosion.

But don't be sleeping on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp's impending doom!

Mark Zuckerberg Says Apple Holds Too Much Control Over App Ecosystem

Meta chief executive remains optimistic about his company’s metaverse products and services

The Wall Street Journal

What you're seeing here in this screenshot is what is killing Meta!

That's Horizon Worlds

This is probably the biggest disaster in social media history!

Why Horizon Worlds spells Meta's Doom:

1. The graphics look like they came from a Nintendo Wii
2. VR headsets are heavy, and burn a lot of battery power
3. The service requires a Meta account
4. This is burning a lot of R&D money
5. Meta just laid off 11,000 workers
6. When Meta wants to hire again, will anyone want to work there? Nope!
7. VR itself will probably take 10 years before it reaches mass appeal
8. Sony and Valve will probably eat Meta's VR lunch

This will be a bloodbath!

I understand exactly why Mark Zuckerberg is building Horizon Worlds.

1. He can't acquire another Instagram or WhatsApp
2. Gen Z wants nothing to do with him
3. He owns no hardware platforms, and all previous attempts were a failure
4. He believes that by capturing the "Next Big Thing", he will define its future

Yet the only people who truly love Meta are old people -- and they're not trying your VR headsets!

Look, here's the difference between Elon Musk's Twitter disaster and Mark Zuckerberg's Horizon Worlds disaster:

1. Twitter is Elon Musk spending his "F*ck you" money. It's a side hustle. It can fail.

2. Meta is Mark Zuckerberg's entire gig. If Horizon Worlds fails, Meta fails. Two years ago, Meta was a $1T company -- not anymore!

But the biggest difference: you've all heard of Twitter -- how many people have heard of Horizon Worlds?

I have a strong suspicion that when Meta finally goes bankrupt, people won't even know about Horizon Worlds.

As in, that's how incredibly forgettable this entire venture is!

When Facebook burns to the ground, people will be like, "Well, it's a mystery that happened!"

@atomicpoet we will think we all just got tired of the place ala MySpace. i wonder if Mastodon is the future for the masses, or will it always be niche? if not, wonder where they will all go. i mean if you think about it, MySpace was niche. AOL was the precursor to FB. the masses need it simple and VERY user friendly
@atomicpoet I’m okay w FB burning to the ground. I can’t wait.
@atomicpoet A Youtube documentary titled "The Lost Multi-Billion-Dollar VR Game"
@atomicpoet when I've watched videos it reminds me of PS Home with voice, but without legs. When even the official trailers are boring I am amazed that they have any users at all.
@atomicpoet Is that the sequel to Horizon: Forbidden West?
@atomicpoet On a more serious note, it would be funny if Sony sued them if it got a bit more popular.

@atomicpoet

though it does seem that he is also crashing his "real job" stock, too. this kinda crazy shit is why a very successful car line like Tesla could go out of business, or at least get taken over...

@atomicpoet yes, I didn’t. It’s the same thing with Facebook Watch they wanted to go into direct competition to YouTube and it failed. It’s because Facebook tries to copy other platforms too and implement it to destroy their competitors but what happens is that Facebook loses its identity and damaging its brand. Corporate Social Media collapse might be the thing humankind needs because it has become ridiculous.

@atomicpoet I think they should make 'Social Network 2, Revenge of Reality'.

Needs to be shot in 3D, Sensearound & Smell-O-Vision.

Perfect fit.

@atomicpoet Horizon Worlds is still not available in Australia.
@atomicpoet Old person here. Yes.
@stacey_campbell Okay, but do you also truly love Meta?
@atomicpoet Haha, I didn't read the fine print. No.
@atomicpoet .... and if they do health services will need to prep for a million broken hips as they all fall over furniture
@atomicpoet The next big thing will not be corporate and ultra-centralized, but federated and decetralized. An internet by the people, for the people. Free from all these evil profit logics that only affects people's rigths and private lifes!
@atomicpoet I'm 31. I have a VR set. I love it for my gaming. I see zero potential for it becoming a tool for socializing (except multi-player games) in the coming decade at least. I also don't have and won't get a meta account. Mark seems to be lost in his ivory tower.
@atomicpoet my kid wants a VR set like nothing else and I keep refusing to buy him anything tied to meta so he suffers :)
@atomicpoet VR has always felt like it wont take off for another ten years.
@carbontwelve It won't! How will he continue to burn 20% of his company's resources for 10 years?

@atomicpoet didn't he give himself special voting shares when Meta was setup that gives him absolute control over the company?

I ended up watching https://youtu.be/oVj4kZF-Fgk last night which reiterates a lot of the points you have made about these people.

Elon Musk Is An Idiot (and so are Zuck and SBF)

YouTube
@atomicpoet people will always want to work with Meta unless they stop paying the outstanding salaries they do.
@atomicpoet Ah yes, Horizon Worlds, where everybody is permanently legless...
@atomicpoet this is Second Life once again, except with gazillion more moneys wasted
