Today is my 1 month anniversary of signing up for Mastodon. A few observations—after spending 13+ years on Twitter:

•The Mastodon community is kinder & more focused on lifting one another up than tearing down.

•Mastodon is learning from Twitter's mistakes by including accessibility options, incorporating an edit button, & not centralizing everything

•Engagement is not dependent on clickbait or outrage, but genuine positive content.

None of the above are absolutes, but overall, glad I'm here.

@QasimRashid to be fair, the community on "the fediverse" is comparatively young.

That being said, it's not without issues. People "at the top" in the project could let fame go to their heads if they're not careful.

@root @QasimRashid There's no such group though. There's just each server owner. A very disparate group. And if you don't like them for some reason you can start your own instance of mastodon and federate with all the others you want to.

Every public interest organization could have its own server. Your neighborhood could. A knitting circle in the next town could. The Senate could. The ACLU. It doesn't need ads. It will never be owned by one billionaire

@SusanKraemer @QasimRashid I didn't mean "admins at the top" - I'm very much aware of per-instance management.

I'm talking about the developers and project owner for the Mastodon *code*.

@root @QasimRashid even that seems to be just one and the same guy.

@ccradle @root @QasimRashid Corey, you are right - a bit more than one guy!

But now you can mute, block or report any poster by clicking on the 3 dots bottom right of their post, also can choose who to follow, accept or reject a follower

@SusanKraemer
Yep...looks like community is moving things in the right direction. More work to do(especially around welcoming Black Twitter) but there's hope.
