The Electoral Count Act reforms currently in Congress would codify that state legislatures can't declare a "failed election" and overturn results.

That's exactly what Trump wanted in 2020. It could happen in 2024.

This is why we must pass these reforms during the lame-duck.

@rbreich
So many reforms, so little time
@rbreich Any time a GOP politician cries election โ€œirregularitiesโ€ they should get put under oath and provide proof and pay for security details for election workers

@rbreich one question I have about these reforms is whether they would also invalidate the interstate compact?

After all that could theoretically also result in a state legislature throwing the electoral votes for a state to the candidate who lost in that state, but for the exact opposite purpose.

Not that we shouldnโ€™t pass the reforms, I just wonder if that would be a side effect or if they worded it carefully enough to avoid that.

@rbreich I am for any voter reform that enshrines the right to vote and lifts all obstacles that seek to prevent the casting of that vote. Everyone 16 and older should have the franchise. (If you can pay federal taxes you get a vote).
@rbreich My democracy wish list: 1. Eliminate the electoral college 2. Eliminate Gerrymandering 3. Popular vote wins. 4. Campaigns can be no longer than 2 months. 5. All funds are provided by the taxpayers no more citizens united. 6. Election Day is a Federal Holiday. 7. Debates are held on public TV in a Lincoln Douglass style. 8. No commercials 9. Equal air time 10. Rank choice voting nationally.
@rbreich took your advice and joined Mastodon, so tired of Twitter, Elon should have bought Parlor he would have fit right in.
@rbreich Sounds to me like you would like taking state power away and give to the massive, bloated, and too powerful federal government
@rbreich what are the chances it will not pass?
@rbreich I hope Democrats realize how bad a Republican House could be for Americans. They also need to expand SCOTUS to at the very least 11 preferably 13. Otherwise many more rights will be done away with by the current Republican SCOTUS party.
@rbreich What I want to know is why didn't we pass them in the intervening 20 months. I mean come on, it's not like the Republicans weren't always going to try this crap again from the moment Trump tried it then.
