DuneMyThangI confess, for all those that consider Elon Musk a “genius”, he seems somewhat surprised that Apple charges 30% for being platformed on their App Store. Did he not do due diligence prior to dropping $44 billion on a company that was bleeding cash?

@krisSacrebleu I've disliked Musk ever since he started cluttering Space with his endless Space-X satellites,treating the Final Frontier as if it were his personal backyard. It was a harbinger of the narcissism and arrogance we're seeing from him now
Maya Gurantz@krisSacrebleu There’s also the theory that who cares about making $$, Musk has megalomaniacal ideological impulses possibly backed by corrupt foreign money, but I’m similarly puzzled— turning the public square into a cesspool no one wants to stay in ALSO doesn’t seem like a strategic move if that’s the case. I really think he’s just an idiot.

@mayagurantz @krisSacrebleu Agree that Musk is an idiot, but Peter Thiel isn't and the Saudis have experience in creating the sort of society they seem to be envisioning. Twitter is where those who are resisting the death of democracy tend to meet, discuss, share and organize across fields. It makes total sense to disrupt that.
@SophiaZNewman @krisSacrebleu Absolutely. But then aren’t there so many people who will just create a new platform for all those users? And so many talented recently-fired engineers and designers looking for jobs who will be only too happy to create that space? It seems like a temporary interruption, a long walk for a short drink.
@mayagurantz @krisSacrebleu True, but those talented engineers and designers are going to require funding and most of the VCs seem to be aligned on the disrupting side. There are choices popping up but it could take quite awhile for people to gather into a centralized unit again.
