Back when I was getting started in #comics, I asked an established pro for advice. He told me he didn’t give advice or crits anymore because over the years, everything he knew about the biz & craft was either irrelevant or would make an artist less marketable.

Anyone who knows me knows I didn’t take that to heart. But I got it then and I still know what he meant. Things change so quickly in comics and illustration. Basic principles stay relevant, but it’s tough to stay on top of the specifics.

@stevelieber Sometimes people ask me for job advice and it's like they're asking for medical advice from someone who came up when leeches were the hot new thing.
@jwz That line in your bio about “your parents’ web browser” puts ten years on me every time I see it.
@stevelieber that's the eternal paradox for me. I love seeking out advice and looking for information to arm myself with. But listening to the more successful people is often not helpful in comics because they'll tell you, "Well 10 years ago when I got my start, here's what I did--" and you start wondering how much of it is even relevant anymore.
