100 years ago today Charles M. Schulz, cartoonist and creator of the comic strip Peanuts was born.

Charles Schulz occupies a similar space to Mr. Rogers in my mind. I think he's someone who tried to add to kindness in the world but not simply in a wishy-washy way.

We do people like them a disservice when we talk about them as remnants of some nicer time and not as people living in a time where, for example, it WAS a statement to show Black people belonging in the same communities as white people. Both men learned it was important to show children a world where that was a reality.

@mercurie And the story is, as I understand it, that he died as his final syndicated strip was printed. He thought the strip would die with him, but in fact he died with the strip. Watterson did a lovely tribute.
