Handy #Mastodon hint: since you're getting a full timeline unfettered by algorithm, you may find you're seeing the same post over and over as it gets re-boosted.

In the Web app, click on the ... of an individual Mastodon post and you'll see the option to filter that post specifically.

I put all these types of posts into a filter category called OverAndOver just so they're in the same place.

(Apologies to Mr. Christl, this was just a great example of something I needed to see only once.)

@researchbuzz there's also boost-grouping setting.
@researchbuzz @johnefrancis Fyi group boost alas will repeat it after 40 messages. Open issue here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/18693
Option to limit boosts in timeline better by setting the falloff in "Group Boosts" · Issue #18693 · mastodon/mastodon

Pitch The falloff for the "group boosts" feature is currently hard-coded to 40 but should be an option to be set by the user. Motivation The setting "group boosts" hides multiple boosts, but after ...

@marcoshuerta @researchbuzz good to know, thanks. I don't think I've ever hit 40. Got pretty close with a "set fire to the trolls" thing.
@johnefrancis my understanding is after 40 other messages if it's boosted again in your timeline it'll show up. I see repeat boosts all the time. i think the suggestion in the github issue is to make it time-based. (i.e. don't see the same boost again within N days)
@johnefrancis @researchbuzz I have that checked, but still see a lot of repeat boosts. Does it depend on which client I’m using? Does it not apply to boosts of toots from users I follow?
@ShadSterling @researchbuzz it expect it would only apply to the Mastodon web client. It's confusing, but many of the settings in preferences are client settings that only apply to the web client, and many are "account" settings, which changes how the API responds. I don't have a good idea of which are which yet.
@researchbuzz how can I create a filter to no see posts I've boosted in my "home" timeline?
@lakelady Hmm, that's very interesting! I don't know. If I follow you, I have the option to mute your boosts. But I don't see an option to mute my OWN boosts. Lemme try something.
@researchbuzz I'd also like a way to do the opposite - see only things I've boosted.
