The great thing is even some of Adam Smith's ideas seem so radical to economists now that ones who haven't actually gone over his original work in detail would think someone too far left to be mainstream had come up with them if presented with them. They kind of idolize a fantasy Adam Smith they made up out of bits of his work, some interpreted as meaning something very different from what he meant.
