DOES THAT MEAN I CAN ONLY INTERACT WITH PEOPLE ON MY MASTODON SERVER?

NOPE!

[I'm not shouting. Well, I guess I'm shouting...]

All servers interact with each other behind the scenes. The only noticeable difference is that people have different servers at the end of their account addresses.

@mastodonmigration in the other place, if I followed someone interestimg, I would browse their following list & find more people to follow. Can't do that here - it only shows following list for this instance. Is that everywhere?

@Rdonair So, there seem to be some data migration issues with federation, and one of them is how data like followers and following propagates across the network. It can take some time for all of the data to get updated on other servers, as it seems to be done at very low priority background processes. But, check back tomorrow. Right now @mastodonmigration has 110 following.

@mastodonmigration I think the best example was what someone said to me... You may be on Verizon, and I may be on at&t. But you can STILL call me because of all the stuff going on in the background.

@mastodonmigration you can change servers right? I feel like I'm on the wrong one. I want to be with more film maker actor types. I care about politics. But I get sick of it. I want to be informed. Not inundated. I'm more of a fiction lit poet artsy vegan. I went to law school. But all that did was beat me up. I don't practice. I'm more into wanting to write film scripts & art stuff. Culture and behavior fascinate me. I haven't worked in law since 2002 & few friends I have are all employed in the film & tv industry. I'm not looking to change that.

@artistichope Just follow hashtags you are interested in and follow people that share those interests. Your server actually has almost nothing to do with your experience here. It's like using Verizon vs. AT&T for your mobile provider.

@mastodonmigration OK. I'll see. But I keep having weird things. For example. I'm following an actress I met. But when I look at who she is following. All I see is one person. It's a political consultant. She's following more than one person.

@artistichope Great question! That is a sort of issue with Mastodon. Once you start following someone, it takes a little while for all their follower/following information to show up on your server. It can be a few hours or a couple days. Check back latter and you should see it start to populate.
