This is so strange. I have found that the #search box does not return any hits when I search for a certain #hashtag, but if u write a #post containing a hashtag, post it, and click on the hash, then the posts DO appear that have that hashtag and it seems to work instantly and find things on other servers including things posted by people I do not follow - but someone else on this server follows. So strange. It seems to work but not with the search function... #tootorial #fosstodon

I had the same problem. And others.

When you search for a hashtag in the search box, then there is a list of hashtags under what you type. You then have to click on one of the hashtags listed under the search box. Then results appear.

You are the 4th person I've run into work this problem. Maybe with a UI change request.

Can you only search on hashtags on mastodon? Sometimes searches return nothing at all for things that I feel like someone would be talking about, and I want to find it.

I'm new too, but I think you can only search for hashtags. If anyone is searching more than that, it's not official.

When your search returns "nothing at all" is that a hashtag search?
