Part of the Ring of Brodgar stone circle, superbly located between the Loch of Stenness and the Loch of Harray on Orkney's West Mainland. When erected, over 4,000 years ago, 60 stones stood here: now there are 36. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/westmainland/ringofbrodgar/index.html

@UndisScot
Visited this site last August.
Love your website BTW - an indispensable resource!
@dilling Thank you so much for saying so!
@UndisScot Do we know what happened to the missing 24?
@UndisScot
Yes. Another Scottish stone circle that puts Stonehenge in the shade. Callanish anyone?
@UndisScot I visited the site in September of this year. A magical place
@UndisScot Two days early for #StandingStoneSunday but there are no bad days to see #Orkney or the #RingOfBrodgar

@UndisScot

How do people imagine the holes were dug and the stones cut to size to create this? Pickaxe and shovel work would be hard enough but ... sticks and bits of antler?

Anyond have any idea what *actually* happened? We assume low tech to be easy but ....
