Quick little tip: You don't need to use link shorteners on Mastodon.

All links on Mastodon count for 23 characters towards your limit, no matter how many characters they really are.

However, you need to include https:// at the beginning of links to make them clickable.

I did some quick experimenting and the limit seems to be around 2500 characters. When hitting the limit, the toot gets rejected with HTTP 422. Don't know the exact number as I didn't want to spam it and inadvertently cause any issues..😅

@james @feditips But it's an HTTP url that's clickable on Mastodon; if you 'copy link' or something, it's clearly HTTP, not HTTPS.

I think most _servers_ these days will 301 Redirect a HTTP request to HTTPS. Though sfba.social doesn't, and just fails to 'curl' or chromium. Firefox and chrome seem to try HTTPS even if HTTP port 80 fails.
