A feature I'd like is the ability to turn DMs off here (in a way that alerts people trying to send them to me). Aside from the inherent insecurity, they're hard to see in some apps/UIs, and I often miss seeing them, as do, I presume, many others. Plus it's yet another thing to check, like an unwanted voicemail box.
Cue the "why DMs here are perfect" and "you shouldn't complain, you're too new here" crowd.

@mattblaze I mean, you could try asking how people handle that issue, instead of just declaring, in your wisdom, that you know it's bad.

But that would be the kind and community-centered version, and fuck that entire concept, right?

@notafurry @mattblaze He doesn't like it *for his needs* as is his right. It's not some attempt to undermine Mastodon.

@davep @mattblaze You know what's also peoples' right? To read the fucking room and notice that all the people who were willing to engage and help people find their way in this new environment before are blocking, muting, and defederating them now. Maybe realize that, hey, the aggressive and combative tone of the hellsite they abandoned isn't appropriate here, and half the "problems" they're whining about are self-inflicted or misinterpretations.

Or, you know. They can not, and be ignored.

@notafurry @mattblaze
It was a comment on a personal preference. Chill.

@davep @mattblaze

Nope. The original post, sure, that could be read that way, though he appears to not get how those work, and learning how it *does* work would probably help him find fixes for his issue.

"Cue the "why DMs here are perfect" and "you shouldn't complain, you're too new here" crowd."

That? Asshole-ry at the people who've burned out on trying to help people who refuse to be helped while they destroy the place they've fled to.

Sure, I didn't *have* to reply in kind. *shrug*
