Lake Louise

Called Ho-run-num-nay in the Nakoda language, Lake Louise is a glacial lake fed by (the rapidly receding) Victoria glacier, which can be seen at the base of white-faced Mount Victoria at the head of the lake. Glacial flour -- ultra-fine ground mountain dust created through the interaction of the glacier and mountain stone -- gives the lake it's trademark opaque turquoise Kool-aid colour.

@kichae Been there many times. It's beautiful. Thanks for the pic
@kichae Beautiful shot, but it so sad to see how small that glacier is now. I was there in the mid 70's and it completely dominated that end of the lake.
I was last there in 2009, and even I noticed the difference. It's receding so fast :(
@kichae @JulieB Far more depressing is the difference between the elevations on NTS map-sheets and altimeter readings on glaciers / icefields like Athabasca or Wapta :(
@JulieB @kichae do you have photos you can share?
(I grew up near here, and have the similar memories/impressions but photos harder to come by :/
@kichae we visited in October 2016
@kichae doh! My pic is of course, Moraine Lake
