Given PHP is an acronym, should it always be all caps or is Php allowed?

#php #branding #PHPHomePage #ProgrammersHelpingProgrammers #PHPHypertextProcessor

@Njames I think we should always fully expand the recursive backronym.
@andrewfeeney PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor: Hypertext Preprocessor: Hypertext Preprocessor: Hypertext Preprocessor: Hypertext Preprocessor: Hypertext Preprocessor

@Njames @andrewfeeney: This brings up a question(s) I’ve had simmering for a while:

Is there a predisposition for developers to use recursive acronyms, or, do we see them in other industries?

And why do we seem to think we’re clever by making them (like the first time I saw Stallman talk about GNU, or, the latest iteration of YAML as an acronym)?

@itsjoshbruce @Njames This feels very developer centric. But 🤷‍♂️

@itsjoshbruce @andrewfeeney

Jesus said we should ASK, Seek and Knock and if that is not a recursive initialism then 🤷 All is fair in love and war.

#wwjd #ask #AskSeekKnock

@Njames Exactly! Repeat until all matter in the universe is taken up as a binary representation of this pattern.
@Njames @andrewfeeney wasn't it supposed to be Personal Home Page when it first showed up?
@phaberest @Njames @andrewfeeney wow I’ve been coding in php since 1999 and just learned this. Thanks!
