Researchers have estimated that if we still had a federal assault weapons ban, we would see 70% fewer mass shooting deaths.

S-E-V-E-N-T-Y PERCENT.

Reinstating it should be a no-brainer.

@rbreich IMHO, there is no reason for civilian ownership of high powered assault rifles UNLESS they are part of a trained standing militia (like in Switzerland).

There should be training & licensing for ANY fire arm - and to even purchase ammo. W/ refresher training every 2 yrs.

I mean why not? In order to drive a car you must be trained & have a license.

@CarlVernet @rbreich And liability insurance.

@karoli @rbreich In some jurisdictions around the US, if you live in an apartment and own any kind of gun, you must also purchase liability insurance and have trigger locks or gun safes.

As a gun owner, trigger locks AND gun safes are all part of how you properly & responsibly store a gun.

@karoli @rbreich And as an FYI, I have a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and have taught gun safety before.
@CarlVernet @rbreich I don’t personally own guns, though I’ve considered it in recent times. But those I know who do are meticulous about gun safes and gun safety.

@karoli @rbreich Please have a good reason for owning a gun. Then take lessons on how to shoot the gun and then take safety & care lessons.

If buying a gun for home defense, pls consider a shotgun over a handgun. If you miss w/ a handgun, that gun could be used on you. You will NEVER miss w/ a shotgun - just point and shoot.

Bottom line, have a good reason for a gun & get trained.

@CarlVernet @rbreich I would never own a gun without training. Ever.
