I wrote a thing about how Elon has now admitted that the "content moderation council" was always a smokescreen to appeal to advertisers, but he never intended to listen to them.

Also he claims he went back on his promises because activists promised not to try to "kill" twitter if he set up that council, but (he claims) they went back on that deal. Of course, that's all made up in his head, rather than reality.

@mattblaze @mmasnick Should we be viewing Zuck in a different light now as an incompetent CEO who’s in over his head but would do a better job if he was capable of doing a better job or had better people around him. Versus somebody like Elon who’s been pretty bad at every job he’s ever had but doesn’t care because he’s personally insulated from any and every bad outcome.

But the fact that the promise was extremely specific, and directed at soliciting continued business from his paying customers - the advertisers - changes things a bit.
