Getting Clean From Twitter

On addiction, and the guy supplying the drug, and why it's time to quit

@ecmclaughlin Elizabeth, GREAT post! I’m sending it my few remaining Twitter holdouts (I came to the same conclusion you did a few weeks ago).
@ecmclaughlin Waiting for my Post slot to open up. Looking forward to giving the bird to the bird 🐦

Elon and his billionaire cult spent 44B to own the libs.
They'll drive the holdouts our way..

@ecmclaughlin this is excellent!

We are responsible for our own sobriety. It's a question of intentionality, and utilization, and amplification. "We become what we amplify" David Dark says. We have the opportunity to be a loudspeaker for intervention, to be renunciants of toxicity, to conscientiously object, to acknowledge our shared condition, and create connections that are deeper and richer.

What Do We Talk About When We Talk About Twitter?

I will doubtless have more to say on the subject in the days to come, but I’m watching my relationship with the thing called Twitter change and I’d like to offer a few words and images. I hopped on years ago as a way of heeding the counsel of my literary agent. By securing “@DavidDark” early, I was given to understand that I’d have one more platform for marketing my content. This was true.

Dark Matter
@ecmclaughlin it’s like the drug got spiked with something bad, when the dealer changed. I also used to think there was some value in winning arguments online, and it was like we had a kind of victory when trumpet got kicked off. But I’m too tired for that now.
@ecmclaughlin I too have been bothered by the “stay and fight” mentality. Your response is compelling, compassionate and beautifully articulated.
@ecmclaughlin Just about sums it up. Excellently written, as always.
It is hard to get people to understand that those folks they have been chatting with for years are enabling that dirty guy screaming for you to take your top off, and leaving marks. They can't pay their tab and leave yet. I don't know how to help them see.
@ecmclaughlin Thank you for such an excellent, thoughtful essay. So on point!

Thankful my simple life & income isn’t tied to twitter or social media. I imagine that colors perspective. Life is 2 short 2 grapple w/ any addiction & when it’s tied to livelihood. That’s frightening. I respect creators need 2 eat.
Happy when social media offers disabled & marginalized access & potential profitability, that is usually reserved for non-marginalized. I get some incomes need paywalls & fees. Would never ask 4 free labor. A healthy medium would be cool
