Of all things that might need fixing in #Mastodon , the most urgent one is monetization. Not only the hosting and domains cost money, the moderators and sysadmins should be compensated for the hours they put into.

I would be fine if admins started spamming for donations, or throttle users that aren't donating; effectively making it a paid service with a free tier.

@deavid Throttle users that aren't donating? If the donation is mandatory, it is not a donation, it is a payment.

@xblasco exactly that's what I'm talking about - what do you think if some servers decided to go that route. Paid service with free tier.

Of course is not a donation. As soon as you start tracking who donated, is not a donation.
