Not sold that the #BlueJays should sign #Bellinger on a team-friendly deal over #Nimmo but hear me out: what about both?
@Bugs OK, I’m listening . . .
@jbjb I mean, team friendly, one year plus option cheap gamble on Bellinger. If he's even solid, he helps us move Springer over saving his body, while batting left-handed and improving outfield defense. If Nimmo comes, him too, but more money and longer (saved for a year at least by moving Teo contract). Days Kirk DHs, outfield is (likely) Nimmo, Springer, Lourdes... but Kirk catches: Spinger, Nimmo, Bellinger... perhaps best outfield D all-around overall, with two added lefty bats... AND
@jbjb Bellinger EITHER becomes affordable 4th outfielder with lefty bat and solid enough D, OR returns to form on the cheap. But alone, I don't like Bellinger and only on the rumored team friendly deal alongside (moderate bling) Nimmo do I think this works. Together? It's a boss move, IMO
@Bugs I like it a lot. I confess I haven’t thought about both of them being acquired, but it makes perfect sense as you have presented it.
@Bugs I confess I am not too familiar with Nimmo, but Bellinger scares me. I am not sure he can hit at all. Sustainability has always been a concern given his long, wild swing, but he seems unable or unwilling to change. If the Dodgers can’t sort him out, I doubt that the Jays can.
@jbjb this is also a fair point. He is only 27, but you're right about his swing. That said, so is Bo's and things can come around. If cheap, he's worth the gamble, but I just wouldn't want to see him as "the solution" in the Of... If he got paid to be fourth outfielder and figured it out, it would just be bonus
@Bugs good point about Bo’s swing. It’s true he is still young. Cheap is the key here for me. Does Berlinger and his agent see that there is benefit to signing a “redemption” one year contract? It will be interesting to see what the market is for him.
@Bugs “Berlinger?” agh, auto correct!
@jbjb I would think they must want a short deal to get a chance at a payday, bc nobody is giving him all star money without a stellar turnaround at this point
@Bugs do you get a sense of teams other than the #BlueJays who might be in on Bellinger?
@jbjb This makes it sound like a bidding war may be possible... Not sure I'd wanna play that game: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/11/rockies-rumors-cody-bellinger.html

@Bugs it looks as though other teams are thinking the exact same thing as the Jays. I agree that the price may prove unappealing.
@Bugs you know your stuff and I really enjoy your takes on the #blueJays.
