Doing an interview with the BBC to promote my upcoming musical “Allegiance” in London.
This is my legacy project, the work I am most proud of and am most eager to share with UK audiences. It tells the story of our community, when 120,000 Japanese Americans were put into barbed wire prison camps during WWII because we resembled the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.
Allegiance is a celebration of the human spirit over adversity. #NeverForget

@georgetakei If your half as good at musicals as you are at being a decent person you are going to blow them away!

Good luck.

@georgetakei Myself and my fiancee can't wait to see you in this - we have tickets for January
@georgetakei
I wish "rounding people up into camps" weren't such a contemporary thing in Britain today, but it is.
Your story is very important George.
@georgetakei 妖精の力は自然の力。自然には抗えないことを、皆知っていた。
@georgetakei I wish I could see it George
@georgetakei I saw #Allegiance in Los Angeles when it first went up. WONDERFUL show. Moving and eye opening. So amazing you're taking it to London. Thanks for telling your story.

@georgetakei Break a leg, sir. May the production be a runaway success.

Just rewatched one of my guilty pleasures - Larry Crowne. Brilliant performance.

@georgetakei I read about Jack Soo (Goro Suzuki) he had a similar story. He was an amazing guy. Actor, singer, best known as Nick Yemana on the Barney Miller TV show.
@georgetakei Can't wait to watch it! Is it kid-appropriate, say for a 12 year old?
@georgetakei Thank you for being on here! Some of the fun of twitter was hearing what my favorite actors are up to. That was the part I was going to miss the most with not being on that site anymore.
@georgetakei A great legacy. Wishing you every success.

@georgetakei George;

I think it was really a great land grab. Japanese Americans who owned land had 1 week to dispose of it before being sent to concentration camps.

A shameful time in American History, but we have had so many.

JimK

@georgetakei Fantastic! I've just bought tickets, looking forward to it!
@georgetakei If I recall correctly, I think my good friend from high school was involved in the production of Allegiance.

@georgetakei I'd love to see this in the States at some point.

Another era of human history left out of many history books - and a timely reminder of how dehumanization of "others" can effect communities.

@georgetakei so glad it has come to London - as Americans living in the UK we will definitely be there! Thanks for all you do!
@georgetakei I learned once that all were US citizens - it was property owners who were taken into custody and one had to be a citizen to own property.
@georgetakei I’ve seen the film in a theater and it was wonderful. I hope someday to see if performed live. It is important and powerful. Thank you!
@georgetakei I swear If is is the real George takai I'm literally gonna fanboy hard

@georgetakei

Proud to boost this! When will we see it in North America?

@georgetakei good luck with this important show
@georgetakei I was a College level Chem major in my second year (early 70's) and took a political science course as an elective. I had to write a paper and choose the Japanese interment during WW2 as my subject. It was upsetting to see what was done to Japanese -American citizens under the guise of national security and worse yet have it upheld by the Supreme Court(Korematsu v. United States).
@georgetakei when will this be broadcast @georgetakei ? Howard 🖖
@georgetakei you are a national treasure! Xoxo
@georgetakei
It's an incredible show. I saw it in NY when it first opened. Powerful, moving, and thought provoking.
@georgetakei I wanted to share this with you. My great niece’s great-grandparents & great-great-grandfather were all thrown into the camps. Her great-grandfather had a nursery in Northern California. His family was allowed to take very few personal items with them. He took eucalyptus leaves so that he could always open that box & draw in a breath when he needed to remember.
@georgetakei I look forward to seeing this! All the very best ⭐️
@georgetakei I saw this in San Diego. It was a very moving experience.
@georgetakei please Mr Takei come to Ireland with this

@georgetakei , I would love to see this live... but, Kentucky. Sigh. So I bought the DVD.

I will say, there are very few artists that I respect more than you, for your work, and for your actions outside of work. Shout out to Cloney, but for marrying Amal Clooney. :)

@georgetakei
Ooooh! Wish I was in London to see it! Best of luck George! I'm sure it'll be a huge success.
@georgetakei how are you finding the UK George?
@georgetakei I signed up to the Indie GoGo campaign for this way back in 2012. I never did see my picture in the Photo Quilt - presumably something to do with leaving Aol (AOHell) and signing up to a new provider. But I'd still be interesting in seeing this.
@georgetakei saw Allegiance in NYC and still think about it years later 🎭 what a legacy 💜
@georgetakei
Nice to see you over here in Mastodon. Wishing you the very best with this important project.
@georgetakei Best of luck with this legacy project.
@georgetakei My wife and I saw this on Broadway. It was a great show that really made me feel both sad and angry about how Japanese Americans were treated during the war. It’s good to see you and Telly taking this story across the pond to a fresh audience.
@georgetakei congratulations on your project and thank you for creating this.
@georgetakei A privilege to hear you speak.
@georgetakei Wow, how cool, fascinating & important. Well-done.
@georgetakei Are you going to tour outside of UK?
@georgetakei we seem to have learned little because mature democracies who should know better are still doing it. And #WelcomeToMastadon
@georgetakei The very best of good fortune, sir. A wonderful legacy and one I hope to experience.
@georgetakei I would so love to see your musical. I’ll look for it to open, & hope I can make it to London. I did my thesis on Manzanar, and got a firsthand account from my dad’s neighbour, whose family was relocated there during WWII. Best of luck with this! 🥰
@georgetakei Not sure if you're familiar with the Honorable William Marutani, a judge in Philadelphia. He was about 19 y.o when the U.S.A. interned him and his family in Pinedale & Tule Lake. I met him. He was a smart and kind man. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_M._Marutani

@georgetakei It's tough to know how to respond to your gallant effort. Im ashamed of my country's response toward its citizens during my fathers time. But I wasn't there. I did not experience the fear. I wish I could see your musical. Maybe gain some understanding. How would the Japanese have fared if they were not isolated? Even today I fear for the safety of my 2nd gen American Chinese wife. If China threatens, wil they take my wife? Wil she be assaulted on the road? Be brave.
@georgetakei looking forward to seeing this (but alas not this run in London…) with my musical kid. We realized over dinner last week that he hadn’t learned this important and horrid part of our American history yet. (I wonder if lots of kids will start learning more about our history because of musical theater? First Hamilton, now Allegiance.)
@georgetakei had the pleasure to see it on Broadway, glad you were able to bring it to London.
@georgetakei I think that is a story that should be told in France and Germany as well. I imagine France would love to know the courage and humanity that did run inside those camps, beside the inhumanities. Nison soldiers.
