It’s good to see engagement and use growing here. It would be healthy to have a social platform free of the billionaire oligopoly and the corporate ad folks, don’t you think?

@georgetakei

100% that's why i'm here.

And thanks for making it more interesting!

@georgetakei the beauty of Mastodon is that there are no owners, and you can move to another server (or even have your own) anytime.
@Moke @georgetakei I have a feeling they will get bored of the echo chambers and find there way over.
@georgetakei Switching between Twitter and Mastodon is like moving from constant rage to complete serenity.
@ygalanter @georgetakei it's rather relaxing being able to have a healthy conversation or debate without the name calling and trolls
@ygalanter @georgetakei i felt exactly this for the few days switching between watching twitter in flames and posting on mastodon.
@georgetakei 100% George, rather see people like you here
@georgetakei Completely agree, George. Just landed here today so here's hoping...
@georgetakei agree. more control over the content I see and no ads.
@georgetakei Totally agree. But not just a social platform, everything. The world would be a better place.
@georgetakei I need it. I just started liking Twitter as a platform.
@georgetakei 100%! No far right oligarchs, no promoted accounts paying their way into relevance, no algorithms pushing outrage, tribalism and controversy for the sake of ad revenue.
@georgetakei for it being such an awful thing that's ruining America, oligopoly is a funny word.
@georgetakei I think it's worth TRYING at least
@georgetakei also, I have a story I’d like for Brad to hear.
@georgetakei agreed. Here’s hoping folks stick around and help this place grow!
@georgetakei I definitely agree. I love that people interact here and chat
@georgetakei Definitely feels better without their idea of "engagement" which inevitably meant pile-ons in the other place
@georgetakei Even better seeing that you are over here too George. πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž
@georgetakei Definitely better without the Muskrat
@georgetakei a billion percent, yes πŸ˜‰

@georgetakei

#ElonMusk behaves on #dyingbird like a junior high bully who happens to be the son of the school director.

#masto is by design free of that. /rmk

@georgetakei

Correction George... it IS healthy to have a social platform free of the billionaire oligopoly and the corporate ad folks.

@georgetakei I sure hope so! It's what many of us fought for in the early days of the public internet. It's something we've been dreaming for a long time, even if it looks a bit naive in retrospect.

But many of us are still fighting, because, naive or not, that's still a dream worth fighting for!

@georgetakei yes. Twitter is no all sports betting adds for me
@georgetakei This place seems to be such a breath of fresh air comparing to other social medias.
@georgetakei It's time to create a world we want to live in and stop living in a world others want us to live in. Democracy and participation are the keys to create our world, with the ultimate freedom of choice, not of being chosen.
@georgetakei It’ll be slow to reach that tipping point, but I’m really digging the platform.
@georgetakei Yes. If I can get past the confusion of this service. I started with a server here in Japan, but couldn't upload images and had other problems. So I just switched to this server. Still not used to it. On the other hand, the T-service is confusing too.
@georgetakei l agree it is much healthier hear. The bird site has become a sewer.
@georgetakei This morning I read someone on mastodon saying "I get more easily bored on this plattform than on twitter. And that is a good thing."
@georgetakei Let's hope and work to make it so.
@cwoodruff @georgetakei let's hope harder than Johnny worked to make it so with Bao.
@georgetakei Celebrities and other content creators like yourself will make that happen.
@georgetakei Agreed. I'm hoping it can last, or we can grow with minimal friction. As user bases expand, I fear that we'll start seeing some servers shut down given the rising costs.
@georgetakei I do, though I am missing the engagement with my handful of twitter peeps. (Not enough to go back!)
@georgetakei No. I absolutely need to have the billionaire oligopoly and the corporate ad folks.
@georgetakei it would be healthy to be free of billionaires full stop.
@georgetakei I think Mastodon has radicalised me to advocate for open source social media.
@georgetakei my worry, as with open source, is that's it's largely volunteer hosts and admin/moderators. Is that sustainable?
@georgetakei this is well put Mr. George. We got blocked by him after we said some pretty mean things about Testas. Sorry but they will never be as good as our department's LeSabre.
