Ronnie Soak@pixelfed With who blocks who a major part now in the selection of mastodon instances (and possibly in the future for other networks too), it would be really helpful if this could be visualized in any way.
mray@pixelfed I miss a representation of #ActivityPub as the number one uniting factor that defines the Fediverse. It is also what the video is lacking very much.
Garrett LeSage@mray @pixelfed The largest problem is all the silly names don't say what each thing does. People invested in the fediverse know what some of those things do. But everyone else is like "Frooblobaz? What's that?"
It'd be nice if names of the sites were accompanied with a word or two of what they do. An extended description may also include what they're similar to.
And it would be good to define Fediverse too, and highlight a person's viewpoint with reasons why they would care. (Not tech stuff.)
@garrett @pixelfed I would actually embrace that downside. It is ok to just know there is a lot out there. If you happen to only know one or two even vaguely it invites to explore – and most importantly it makes a point: it isn't a twitter replacement.
I get your point, but I think it is really hard to "explain" all in one image, too. Especially as the list is growing.
This is my definition of Fediverse: Social networks speaking ActivityPub to each other.
As opposed to email, xmpp or diaspora

jp10558@pixelfed So, of the two that I know what they are, I don't actually see why someone wants to say use pixelfed over mastodon? That chart makes it look like mastodon is a superset of the other options. Maybe link to a "why use pixelfed" or whatever?

digitalRightsNinja@pixelfed The search query on https://fediverse.info/explore/people is dead for me. I can enter a query but clicking the magnifying glass does nothing.
Also, Cloudflare sites should always be tagged and cautioned.
