I definitely understand the concerns of everyone saying, "Don't go to Mastodon/cohost/Hive for all these safety reasons."

Like, yes, I understand and agree.

But we are on Twitter now. Late 2022 Musk Twitter. It can't get much more unsafe than this.

@MarzGurl I mean… social media was never exactly safe. Anyone who ever thought they were joining a perfectly safe social media site is naive to a disturbing degree.

@MarzGurl it's baffling to me.

"I won't use Mastodon because the admins could read my DMs" while remaining on a plattform run by a narcistic fascistoid psychopath who would definitely check your DMs to see if you've been mean to him.

(Not even mentioning that admins can ALWAYS access your DMs on any Plattform because they have to be able to)

@MarzGurl I'm more frustrated that everyone just keeps finding more apps to join instead of just finding one and sticking to it and I can't keep up with a dozen apps.
@MarzGurl And I think people are just annoyed about everyone just jumping into whatever new shiny app pops up especially with some apps like cohost it takes days to get a confirmation email and it takes up our time to sign up for something new.
@MarzGurl I'm sure the constant flow of Twitter users flocking to new sites is also not helping the server loads of these sites that probably weren't designed to handle such a large load and Mastodon has finally gotten back to a decent speed after being laggy for days.
@MarzGurl At this point it's like if people really want to be my friend they know which apps to find me at and I shouldn't have to join a dozen apps to keep in touch with someone.
@MarzGurl Though Hive I'm weary about one of the owners apparently being a T*ump supporter.
@MarzGurl I just read that all but 2 Mastodon instances don't have a registered DMCA agent which means that their owners can be personally liable for copyright infringement
@rarebit @MarzGurl The ones located and run by people outside the US wouldn’t need to anyway. In fact, the flagship instance is located and operated in Germany.
@deriamis @MarzGurl I think companies can DMCA entities outside of the US
@rarebit @MarzGurl They can try. DMCA is US copyright, law, though, and it doesn’t reach outside our shores.
