When you are stuck with Windows because of "company policy", WS2 and Docker is a mental sanity saviour. However, I miss so many little things. Simple things like highlighting text, getting automatically copied to buffer, and pasting with the middle button.

Windows is usable. As a desktop, it's stable. But I do miss Linux a lot.

@papaowl are you not using windows terminal?

@shanselman I spend too much time backspacing the "ll", "rm -rf" and other commands I do as a muscular memory. I'm resisting it without noticing. Sometimes need to tell myself to stop.

I like the simplicity to do "df -h" and find out if I need to take care of some logging cleanup. "Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_LogicalDisk" is not intuitive or easy to remember

@papaowl respectfully, thatโ€™s powershell. Iโ€™m asking about your preferred terminal, not shell. It supports the behaviors youโ€™re asking for. It will work with any shell, including WSL.
@papaowl I have some details on my blog and YouTube. Itโ€™s kinda my jam. And @cinnamon owned windows terminal since inception. If thereโ€™s a feature you want, we are the people to ask. https://www.hanselman.com/blog/whats-the-difference-between-a-console-a-terminal-and-a-shell
What's the difference between a console, a terminal, and a shell?

I see a lot of questions that are close but the questions themselves show an ...

@papaowl @cinnamon https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/terminal/tips-and-tricks for example โ€œWindows Terminal also includes a copyOnSelect setting that can be set to true in order for any text selected with your mouse to be immediately copied to your clipboard. The right-click on your mouse will always paste in this case.โ€
Windows Terminal tips and tricks

In this page, you will find tips and tricks to help improve your Windows Terminal experience.

@shanselman @cinnamon You are really close to become my favourite human in the world. I have been using Windows since last Saturday (after speding the last 15 years with Linux) so I am trully lost. The one big advantage is I can spin Rust (the game, not the language) without doing backflips, three prayers and a chicken sacrifice to the WINE gawds.
@papaowl @cinnamon totally. I encourage you to Google โ€œhanselman wsl youtubeโ€ for videos of demos and tips.
Get started using VS Code with WSL

Learn how to set up VS Code to author and debug code using the Windows Subsystem for Linux.

@shanselman @cinnamon #vscode is another one I have to get used to. I've been a pycharm/vim user. I know I can use the same shortcuts and everything. I'm just an old dog learning new tricks. See these as venting and ranting. Old man shouting at the clouds type of thing
@papaowl @cinnamon then vim and maybe tmux or screen in wsl with Terminal will do nicely
@shanselman given I've just started my first "serious" look into wsl, I might just have a look. ๐Ÿ˜€
