I am going to see Toots today (it was my Nan’s name when this app was a twinkle in no one’s eye!)

Apparently she is not really communicating and is difficult to rouse.
She’s wanted to go for so long, months. But even palliative care/illness isn’t linear 🌸💜
Grandpa is getting a bed so he can stay with her overnight.

Her nursing home are AMAZING

@HelloRachy hope she’s comfortable, glad that they’re taking good care of her. x
@colourpurplegal I have so much respect for you! My grandma has only really been acute/in a nursing home for under 12 months. You have been seeing your mum for years 🥺 my grandma has had dementia for a long time but was able to hide it.
@HelloRachy It’s very sad. We can’t believe mum is still with us tbh, she’s had dementia more than 13 years now (looking back can guess roughly when I began). But her nursing home is also great.
@colourpurplegal hmmm my grandma was always forgetful - never called me the night name first hehehe. She only ended up in palliative care after she had general anaesthetic so she could have a hysterectomy as she had quite advanced cancer.
Apparently general anaesthetic can be quite bad for people w/dementia.
(I have issues with general anaesthetic too) she started running out of the house, she was at risk of just running onto the road.
Her cancer has returned but we don’t know what’s happening because she can’t consent to invasive testing and she wouldn’t be a candidate for further surgery.
@HelloRachy no they won’t do anything invasive, it’s been the same with mum the last couple times she’s been unwell. They treat symptoms and that’s all because it’s too distressing for them.
