Essentially the Prime Minister is saying his Government doesn’t care about the enormous damage Brexit is inflicting on the UK economy - his Government’s No.1 priority is stopping people crossing the channel in small boats - it’s utterly shocking

Rishi Sunak quizzed on the impact of Brexit on UK economy - his reply 'should shock the country'

"Apparently it doesn't matter how much damage Brexit has inflicted on the country", Peter Stefanovic said.

The London Economic
@PeterStefanovic he could stop people crossing the channel in small boats overnight if he opened legal routes for asylum seekers
@jtonline @PeterStefanovic there are legal routes, choosing not to use them is not the governments fault.
@workInProgress @PeterStefanovic There are limited and specific routes to claim asylum in the UK, which I don't think are available to most people in the world. Even Hong Kong and Ukraine are predominantly visa schemes, although that might provide the possibility of claiming asylum on arrival. Is there a legal route available for someone in Qatar to seek asylum in the UK?
@jtonline @PeterStefanovic you’re correct the process is specific but they are available to anyone who needs them. If you are unsure you can go to the government website and it will tell you how it is done.

@workInProgress @PeterStefanovic unfortunately they are not available to anyone who needs them, despite what the government website might say. One example from this morning's Home Affairs Committee...

Unfortunately the UK needs to do much more to provide genuine safe and legal routes for claiming asylum

@jtonline @PeterStefanovic Except all you have done is post the opinion of the IRC rather than actual facts. You can as a refugee get a flight/ship from any country in the world to the U.K. and the moment you step off claim asylum. That’s a fact and is a perfectly safe and legal way to enter the country. From France you can board the euro star and do exactly the same. That is a perfectly safe and legal way is it not?
@workInProgress @PeterStefanovic it should definitely work like that, unfortunately it does not. You cannot just get a flight/ship from any country in the world to the UK, and carriers are fined if they allow people to travel to the UK illegally. No one would risk crossing the Channel in small boats if they could simply hop on a plane. If you watch the clip from the Home Affairs Comm., the Home Secretary cannot describe a safe legal route to the UK for the example given because there isn't one.
@jtonline @PeterStefanovic Is there a safe legal way to travel across Africa and all the way through Europe to the U.K.? No because there is no safe way for a 16 year old child to do that on their own whatever their destination, it’s just inflammatory BS to try and pretend there is. The only thing I don’t understand if why they need to be here in the first place? Why are we not allowing people to apply online before they get here and then no need for dinghy’s
@jtonline @PeterStefanovic we have to do everything else online, taxes? Benefit claims and yet not refugee applications. Shit I cannot even call my bank anymore it’s all online. Surely it’s the safest way and they will have a passport before they even get here.
@workInProgress @PeterStefanovic unfortunately I expect that not being able to apply online outside the UK is quite deliberate :(
@jtonline @PeterStefanovic I have looked but it appears that it isn’t just the U.K., I cannot find any countries that let refugees apply online before entering the country. How strange. You would think it would be easier for the countries to deny and weed out false claims before they arrive and refugees to know they are provisionally accepted before they make any journey
@PeterStefanovic
We have another weak Prime Minister owned by the ERG and Bruges Group. #GTTO
@PeterStefanovic
Glad to find you on here Peter. Great work 👍
@PeterStefanovic it's more “Lalala, I can't hear you!”
@kernowbear @PeterStefanovic
"No, no, don't think about *that* problem; look, here are some people to get angry about instead."

@emmatonkin @kernowbear @PeterStefanovic Absolutely!

THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SEEKING ASYLUM IN BRITAIN HAS REMAINED ROUGHLY CONSTANT FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS.

All that's changed is that crises around transport and processing have been engineered.

The symbolic power of people in small boats has been mobilised to provide a focus for fear and hate.

It's fascism. However softly-spoken Sunak is, he's knowingly playing along with it.

@PeterStefanovic Government by Daily Mail headline continues then.....
@PeterStefanovic They aren’t decent people. That’s the problem, right there.

@PeterStefanovic
I am agape at our current government. In the past there was plenty of money. We had the world's best health service.

Now we are taxed more than ever and there is no money for anything.

Where has all the money gone or, more accurately, where is all the money going?

@PeterStefanovic

I'm utterly ashamed that our beloved country has continued to breach human rights, treat human beings with contempt and just behave no better than any other regimes with apathy and so little opportunities for children, men and women. The Government probably treat their dogs better than this.

The irony? UK need more migrant workers and all round education

@PeterStefanovic
He's lying. If he really wanted to stop the small boat traffic he could do so at any instant of his choosing.
@PeterStefanovic only the eu and France can stop them coming. Once they’re here they’re already here, Rishi !
@PeterStefanovic the majority didn’t get what they voted for as Johnson did what Johnson wanted that nobody voted for.
