@workInProgress @PeterStefanovic There are limited and specific routes to claim asylum in the UK, which I don't think are available to most people in the world. Even Hong Kong and Ukraine are predominantly visa schemes, although that might provide the possibility of claiming asylum on arrival. Is there a legal route available for someone in Qatar to seek asylum in the UK?

@jtonline @PeterStefanovic you’re correct the process is specific but they are available to anyone who needs them. If you are unsure you can go to the government website and it will tell you how it is done.

@jtonline @PeterStefanovic Except all you have done is post the opinion of the IRC rather than actual facts. You can as a refugee get a flight/ship from any country in the world to the U.K. and the moment you step off claim asylum. That’s a fact and is a perfectly safe and legal way to enter the country. From France you can board the euro star and do exactly the same. That is a perfectly safe and legal way is it not?

@workInProgress @PeterStefanovic it should definitely work like that, unfortunately it does not. You cannot just get a flight/ship from any country in the world to the UK, and carriers are fined if they allow people to travel to the UK illegally. No one would risk crossing the Channel in small boats if they could simply hop on a plane. If you watch the clip from the Home Affairs Comm., the Home Secretary cannot describe a safe legal route to the UK for the example given because there isn't one.

@jtonline @PeterStefanovic Is there a safe legal way to travel across Africa and all the way through Europe to the U.K.? No because there is no safe way for a 16 year old child to do that on their own whatever their destination, it’s just inflammatory BS to try and pretend there is. The only thing I don’t understand if why they need to be here in the first place? Why are we not allowing people to apply online before they get here and then no need for dinghy’s

@jtonline @PeterStefanovic we have to do everything else online, taxes? Benefit claims and yet not refugee applications. Shit I cannot even call my bank anymore it’s all online. Surely it’s the safest way and they will have a passport before they even get here.

@jtonline @PeterStefanovic I have looked but it appears that it isn’t just the U.K., I cannot find any countries that let refugees apply online before entering the country. How strange. You would think it would be easier for the countries to deny and weed out false claims before they arrive and refugees to know they are provisionally accepted before they make any journey
