Alex Scott has got more balls than 11 other men.
@Geri However, to be fair, the wonderful Alex is not going to receive an automatic yellow card from FIFA which means she can’t appear in the next program if she get’s another one. If Kane or Bale do this, they may be, which reduces the chances of progressing. It’s FIFA who are wrong & corrupt, & caved to pressure, the players are just trying to win a tournament, which should never have been held there in the first place.
@Urban_Tribesman @Geri they shouldn't be trying to win a tournament they shouldn't have gone too.
@leftie_kt @Geri But they are professional footballers, that’s what they do. You are asking them to curtail their trade when they are quite prepared to show solidarity but are being told they can’t by the body that runs their sport. If you want to criticise anybody, then it should be FIFA who have put them in the position in the first place, & who took Quatari money to place the tournament there in the first place. A rock & a hard place springs to mind.

@Urban_Tribesman @Geri they get paid to play matches for their club.

I'm asking them to stand by their supposed morals.

@Urban_Tribesman @leftie_kt If their cause crumbles at the first level of threat then they weren't very committed to that cause, and one could say it was tokenism?

However, I don't refute your argument that FIFA are the ones who are primarily in the wrong though.

@Urban_Tribesman @leftie_kt @Geri I'll make a stand but only if it doesn't affect me is not making a stand.

@AliceDay @Urban_Tribesman @leftie_kt

"We risked death and imprisonment for what we believed in, others were concerned about a yellow card"

@Geri when you say fuck FIFA and have ball bigger than 7 EU teams.
@Geri What is that supposed to represent?

Europe teams won’t use LGBTQ armbands at World Cup after FIFA threats

Captains from England, Wales, Belgium, Germany and other teams planned to wear rainbow armbands to support the LGBTQ community until FIFA threatened yellow cards.

The Washington Post
@m_flax @Geri Thank God. It’s about time the Europeans start showing some respect to their hosts, as they expect the respect of their values and traditions from the people visiting their own countries.
@springfield @Geri Oh, please. Respect for homophobic laws they got from European colonizers in the first place?
@m_flax @Geri the laws that are applied there are not from the European colonizers. Those are religious laws, and as you may know, that’s a Muslim country. Whatever you think of their laws doesn’t matter. That’s their country and they can do as they please, including applying the laws they see fit according to their beliefs. What you are doing by trying to tell them what they should think and do, is exactly what the European colonizers used to do, in the name of progress and civilization.
@springfield @Geri History isn't nearly as facile as you make it out to be. For example, you might find https://dornsife.usc.edu/news/stories/3012/harsh-punishments-under-sharia-law-are-modern-interpretation/ interesting.
Harsh punishments under Sharia are modern interpretations of an ancient tradition > News > USC Dornsife

Jessica Marglin, professor of religion, argues that Sharia law is a complex tradition – one that accommodates same-sex attraction alongside rulings condemning homosexual intercourse. [5 min read]

@Geri they should sell the armbands and let the crowd wear them ☺️
@Geri Brilliant! Go on Alex Scott! Women leading the way as usual. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
@Geri brilliant 👏 can't believe the players backed out of it, yet FIFA should never be able to dictate or give them yellow cards just for an armband, it's bonkers 😡

@Katocall "

A foul is an unfair act by a player, deemed by the referee to contravene the game's laws, that interferes with the active play of the game."

To my way of thinking, it seems hard to say that a small strip of clothing "interferes with the active play of the game."

@Geri exactly. I love football and never not watched England but with the amount of migrant worker deaths and the human rights issues and now this, I will not be watching any of it, never should have been there in the first place but money talks unfortunately 😔
@Katocall I appreciate your position. xx
@Geri that is the way to do it…and shame the footballers for their selfish cowardice. Fundamentally we shouldn’t be there at all, it’s a corrupt shame fest and should never have happened.
@Geri
I don't watch tv, don't own a TV, and generally avoid the BBC, but this does deserve some respect
@Geri Yes Alex! Go queen! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈
@Geri 👍Also respect to the Iranian team for not singing their anthem - that also must have taken guts. Puts our lot in perspective.
@Geri
...and what about all these "nice people" visiting the stadiums ???
THAT's what soccer fans are - selfish !!
