The #Moon is looking much bigger now, with the closest approach to the Moon for #NASA #Orion now just one hour away, at which point the Orion spacecraft will be just 80 miles above the lunar surface. #Artemis #Artemis1
Both the #Moon and the #Earth now in view as #NASA #Orion spacecraft closes in on closest approach. #Artemis #Artemis1
The #NASA #Orion spacecraft has now past behind the #Moon where it will be out of contact until it re-emerges about 25 minutes from now. This is the last image from the spacecraft before contact was lost. #Artemis #Artemis1
Right now the #NASA #Orion spacecraft is carrying out the outbound powered flyby burn intended to put the capsule into a distant retrograde orbit of the #Moon. This while the planned comms blackout continues as the spacecraft passes behind the Moon. Awaiting reacquisition of signal in just over 12 minutes from now, 2 minutes after its closet approach to the Moon. #Artemis #Artemis1
Successful reacquisition of signal from #NASA #Orion as it passes out from behind the #Moon by the #DSN at Goldstone! #Artemis #Artemis1
@aallan Bit worried about the dude inside though...I haven't seen him move in a while

@seprothia Just in case you're not joking, that's *not* a real astronaut! That's a crash test dummy (albeit a very sophisticated one) wired up to monitor what a real astronaut would experience during the #Artemis1 flight.
@aallan Haha thanks for checking but don't worry, I was aware - good call though, hope I didn't panic anyone!
@seprothia I was moderately sure you were joking, but the off chance you weren't was too awful! 😆
@aallan WOW. What a shot. And this is a LIVE video, incredible. What a time to be alive! #Artemis #Orion #Moon
@aallan I hope Putin is contemplating these images. All our concerns, except for the planet and one another, are utterly irrelevant.
@aallan Hey, I know someone who lives there!
@aallan but why’re they flying to Eggmoon instead of the real Moon
