Paying out of pocket for healthcare could bankrupt you after a single unexpected event.
Don’t slip on ice. Don’t get into a car crash. Don’t have a heart attack or stroke. Don’t get cancer. Don’t get a kidney stone. Don’t get pneumonia. Don’t get appendicitis.
@DonnaBeecheerful@drshazmamithani I am an Alberta obstetrician and did the math a few years back as part of research. Numbers were approximate and average for low risk/low intervention: Prenatal tests $800 MD pre/post natal visits $500 MD delivery $700 Midwifery course of care: $4600 Hospital stay $1500/day Epidural $800
@fionamattatall@DonnaBeecheerful@drshazmamithani I know in the US a friend had to prepay for prenatal which ran around 3k. Delivery by C-section was another 5k but she got the bonus two weeks extra off so she had a whole 8 weeks at home with her baby before going back to work. The other friend who lost her baby at 30 weeks did not get refunded her prepaid appointments and still had to pay to deliver a baby that was gone. It’s disgusting how healthcare runs in the US
