Since launching last week, PressCheck,org has collected 998 submissions.
We’ve been able to manually verify 378 journalists on Mastodon, from 211 outlets, covering 130 different and diverse beats.

Long term, the best way to verify professional journalists in the fediverse is for their employers to run their own invite-only servers, so their staff can be @[email protected]
Even putting aside the thorny question of who verifies the verifiers, there's no way centralized verification services like this can scale, as you're already discovering ;)
As @jeffjarvis wrote in his excellent intro blog piece on the 'verse;
