Mostly it's for me it's "this is a great thread, read it" or "here's some background on this thing I'm talking about" or trying to connect two or more threads by other people together and add some analysis of my own about the connection.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this and some other content restrictions were not post hoc responses to technical challenges in implementing them. Full-text search, for example, is likely expensive in a federated system.
