Ok, white folks: “reverse racism” doesn’t exist, and if you don’t know that, you have a lot of learning ahead of you.
This post comes as a response to me seeing a handful of examples of black folks having their posts (where they talk about white people and racism) deleted by mods with the reason being “racism”.

@Patricia sigh

i see this convo is going to loop repeatedly, forever

@Patricia I'm new here but I understand this kind of policy/moderation differs from instance (server) to instance and therefore many people look for one that is not moderated in this manner as vivaldi apparently is. ? I've read some posts asking which instances are POC friendly and am wondering that myself.
@Carriejl the ones I’ve seen were not on Vivaldi, the last one I saw was on mastodon.social
@Patricia Really?! Oh no, that's where I am. I started off here but better move. Do you find Vivaldi or another instance proactively antiracist etc?
@Carriejl no, you are on mstdn.social which confusingly is a different server than mastodon.social 😅
@Patricia I just realized that! Good grief. Thank you. ☺

@Patricia at this point i'm just hoping the cohost people stay funded...

but also, it would be great if we didn't have to rebuild our network from scratch every time we try a new site, so i'm not even sure if anyone working on a social-networking system is even trying to solve the right problem

@JamesWidman I’m currently hoping a culture shift is not only possible, but inevitable… though I don’t actually believe that yet
@Patricia fwiw I think this is (at least currently) primarily an issue with mastodon.social. It's a shame though that that is the de facto "default" server and is so many people's primary impression of mastodon
@sparky_005 yeah, I don’t remember which servers the previous examples I saw were on, but this last one (that triggered me posting) was indeed on mastodon.social
@Patricia Well hopefully this is not the start of a trend on other servers, ugh

@sparky_005 @Patricia I think we're about to see a giant experiment in decentralized community play out in real time.

I understand the history of Mastodon has had a lot of politics with instances deciding who to federate with. But the number of voices is way greater now. It seems to me that the instance level is to blunt of a tool and too beholden to admins.

@Patricia if you don't mind sharing... which servers is this kind of garbage happening on?
@wronglang I didn’t pay attention to the servers of the previous ones (I will in the future), but the one I saw yesterday was mastodon.social
@Patricia (belated) thanks for the reply, I'm slightly less lost on here now 😂 it's been encouraging to see this stuff play out on here mostly ok w/o corporate governance
@Patricia spoiler alert: they have a lot to learn.
@Patricia Ask em what forward racism must mean to them. :P
@Cher It all starts with non-repudiation
@Patricia I never understood what "reverse racism" is supposed to mean
