I have decided to move off of infosec.exchange. Nothing against this instance. It has been wonderful and @jerry is an absolutely fantastic admin.

With the move to Mastodon, I'm trying to be a more honest version of myself on social media, for whatever that means. In point of fact, I'm not in infosec! So it feels a little weird for me to have "@infosec" at the end of my username. Hence the move!

I'm moving over to hachyderm.io for now. I don't think that will be my last move, but it's where I'll be for the time being. Big thanks to @jerry for creating a soft landing place for so many of us Twitter migrators.

In the four days I've been actively using Mastodon I've had more fun, more positive interactions, and more genuine conversations than I ever had in the last at least 8 years of being on Twitter.

Hope it stays this way ❤️

If you're feeling lonely this holiday, just toot "if you can't push to prod on thanksgiving you're not a real devops" and a whole community of people will keep you company.
@paigerduty has anybody told you that your username is fantastic?

Hello. Hi. Do you have a #hobby you're passionate about?

May I suggest something radical?

You DON'T have to turn it into a business.

Thank you for your time.

Edit: On the flip side, don't make an assumption about other people's hobbies and passions, and don't give them unsolicited advice. (h/t @eyrea's comment)

so, i think "yeah well $company employees can read your DMs too" is a shallow retort

because like, how many twitter employees do you know? how many gmail engineers hang out in your community?

in contrast, if your instance isn't too big, your local admins are probably invested in your community. they probably have seen you around at the very least. they might be friends with half your polycule

what i'm saying is, they have more of an incentive to snoop, if they're so inclined

tickets acquired!!! Now I just have to book my trip to Australia

so since I am here now, allow me to do some SLEEP PROPAGANDA

SLEEP IS GOOD

SLEEP IS IMPORTANT

SLEEP IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY EDUCATION OR JOB

and the fact that we are forced to compromise on sleep in order to fulfill duties to capitalism is an immense injustice and health risk.

lack of sleep obviously increases stress levels and therefore the risk for all kinds of diseases, but it also damages your brain on a cellular level because SLEEP MAINTAINS THE INTEGRITY OF YOUR BRAIN.

Well here’s a harrowing story of how this whole migration could go very white-echo-chamber on us real quick. I suggest we newcomers stay VERY engaged on these issues. @JoeSondow was already shouted down for his extremely timid warnings about the .social instance and it’s lack of moderation, and I don’t plan on letting that kinda shit slide over here.

“People saying it doesn’t matter which Mastodon instance you join are being misleading: 1. Each one has different moderation policies 2. Not every one allows you to formally “move” there 3. Who is on that instance and who they follow determines your federated timeline content”

Possibly unpopular opinion but I kind of like the lack of drafts on Mastodon? Like either I send the thing or I don't, no half-measures!
