Does anyone know how to do the equivalent of quote-tweeting on Mastodon? Is it not possible or am I just a moron?
@benjaminwittes It's not possible, by design.
@StefanieSand what is the design logic of that?
@StefanieSand @benjaminwittes most quote tweets on the blue app are dunk Tweeting that bring harassment: even though some are positive
@ewarrenfan @StefanieSand i see. It’s a minor problem for me as it’s the way I footstomp agreement with something: quotetweet it with the word, “Word.”
@benjaminwittes @ewarrenfan @StefanieSand it’s not quite the same, but you can reply with “word”. People will see it but need to click on it to see the context.
@benjaminwittes @ewarrenfan @StefanieSand Could you just boost it and comment “word” on the original post? Wondering if that would show as connected on this platform.
@ewarrenfan @benjaminwittes @inallmyglori @StefanieSand Or copy the link, and put out a new toot: Word, and paste the link
@ewarrenfan @benjaminwittes @StefanieSand you can get the link to the toot and just append it at the end of your quote toot. this is somewhat equivalent to what twitter was doing anyway.
@dml @ewarrenfan @benjaminwittes @StefanieSand
That would be great if when I clicked on the link the thread showed up in my feed. Instead it opens it in a new tab. I know it's a minor thing, but it's annoying. Also, you don't get a preview in your feed so you actually have to click on the link to see what it is about (unless the poster supplies sufficient context). I get the problem w/ dunking, but it sure was convenient to see those QTs.
@StefanieSand @benjaminwittes @smpaley @ewarrenfan definitely agree! i suspect we’ll see some better UI around this eventually. A lot of twitter’s features were inspired by things the community wanted. For example retweets were implemented because users were putting “RT” before a message and amplifying it manually. A big help wanted sign
