As a new Mastodon user coming from Twitter, here is what I find most user-unfriendly.
1. Layout which doesn’t distinguish between original post and a reply to it. Very confusing.
2. Can’t figure out how to read a thread in sequence. Maybe my fault?

Maybe incorporate a few of the good design features of Twitter here? They didn’t get everything wrong!

Thanks to all for the suggestions! I’m trying Metatext and I like the layout better than with the Mastodon app.
I also tried Twidere but wasn’t able to display my own thread properly with that, and also it crashed twice.
I was attracted by the feature to post simultaneously to Mastodon and Twitter with Twidere though - are there any better iPhone apps out there able to do this?

@rahmstorf So far, Toot! Is working really well for me on iOS. It shows threads in a tree like way, see screenshot below.

I dislike the deliberate Zuck-like design in Tooot.app with the prominent counters for boosts and favs.
Those counters say zero about whether conversation is taking place, the counters are addictive, they don't act toward inclusive communities but toward competitive combattants,
and the counters are manipulative and can be meddled with to manipulate audience.

Those negatives are what Zuckerberg built into his software designs deliberately.
And we came to accept them as gold standard.
But they're poison.
Actual societal poison.

Metatext.app doesn't follow that Zuck Mind design at all, and the counters view can be disabled in settings.

I do feel strongly about the manipulative character of these counters, so ... sorry for the rant against the Toot.app.

I'm using the advanced view in a browser on iPad, too, tho. Because the browser shows no counters at all in the timeline. Very relaxing. Even if more cumbersome than the Metatext.app - my relaxed diaphragm is worth it. 😁

@anlomedad @rahmstorf Ah yes, I see your point. In the timeline, the counters are not visible and I also like that. These are only visible after clicking on a specific toot or thread.
