A reminder that we asked young people to turn out and they did. Latino voters leaned into Democrats. Black men voted overwhelmingly for Stacey. Abortion was top of mind for women. Black women continued to show up strong. The Party should not compromise on the priorities of those voters. They hold the future.
@ifilljustice they need to ditch the smug "look what we did for you" malarkey and keep the throttle fully engaged
@AlxLndOMountain @ifilljustice White people aren't getting it done, though, so black people get credit in this case.
@ifilljustice
And after what unfortunately a lot of women are going to go through with Dobbs the party should try to remind white suburban women that there is an alternative. BUT it should invest most heavily in the groups that did show up for it, and keep showing up for it.
@ifilljustice the narrative on msm is that Latinos voted red, Makes me mad
@ifilljustice Please remember LGBTQ+ people, too. Just because you can't always see us, doesn't mean we didn't turn out. And some of us are young, and some of us are women, and some of us are Black, and some of us are Latine.
@drewherzig Absolutely true. With the attacks on the LGBTQ community from so many politicians, the vicious anti-trans rhetoric, and the Dobbs decision’s likely reach to Obergefell, the community understood the significance of this election to safety, dignity and full citizenship for LGBTQ rights, and showed up.
@ifilljustice and now, from what I've heard, Republicans want to up the voting age to 21.
@ifilljustice As America becomes more brown and less white, we progressives need to diversify our Latinx outreach. We know from Texas and Florida that it's not a single voting bloc. Even in Uvalde, the conservative appeals to God, family and country were persuasive.
@ifilljustice this is my single greatest frustration with the Democratic Party.

@ifilljustice

The Dem leadership doesn't seem to understand that people showed up to save Democracy and stop the GOP from banning abortion -- that people showed up DESPITE the performance of Biden and the Dems in Congress, not because of them.

@lukasiak @ifilljustice Even if this were true, I don't see how framing it this way is remotely helpful.

Lots and lots of people showed up for Democrats BECAUSE of Biden and the Dems in Congress.

The problem for Democrats has always been that to get their max potential turnout they needed voters to "fall in love" with their candidates while Republicans could count on their voters to "fall in line".

What gives me hope is that dynamic might be changing.

@lukasiak @ifilljustice I'm hopeful that the reason young voters are turning out in higher numbers is because they recognize that politics is about good governance and not a popularity contest.

@tob @ifilljustice

Young voters showed up for the same reason that Trump voters show up.

Fear.

The difference is that young voters fears are rational.

@ifilljustice along with Gen Z, who appear to be, at least based on what I read, to be much less racist / misogynistic than previous (white) generations.
