I’m feeling concerned that many of us have recently joined #Mastodon and that the long term visually impaired community are now inundated with beautiful photos with no #alttext to describe the photo. Only about 1 in 5 Toots describe photos on my timeline. We all need to curb our enthusiasm to share undescribed photos and embrace our descriptive writing. I’m not on my high horse just concerned that we’ve arrived en masse and need to do our very best to embrace #MastodonCulture.

Please also consider your screen name. I just tried my iOS voice over on some people showing up in my feed, your user name reads as ‘Miri Piri Woman Farmer Dog Turtle Mountain … and so on’. From what I’ve been told liberal use of emoji in names / screen names are cumbersome.

@mikebeganyi @miripiri @andyburke Use a client other than the official one and follow @PleaseCaption which will remind you when you’ve forgotten.
@jlobster @miripiri @andyburke @PleaseCaption - my client also does this, but I don’t need the reminder. Always add it…
@mikebeganyi @miripiri @andyburke @PleaseCaption That's awesome. I know that screenreaders can better read hashtags if they are camel-cased (#MastodonAccessibility vs #mastodonaccessibility), so try that with your username, maybe?
@mikebeganyi @andyburke Ah, never thought of that. Thank you, I’ll remove them.
