MiriPiriI’m feeling concerned that many of us have recently joined #Mastodon and that the long term visually impaired community are now inundated with beautiful photos with no #alttext to describe the photo. Only about 1 in 5 Toots describe photos on my timeline. We all need to curb our enthusiasm to share undescribed photos and embrace our descriptive writing. I’m not on my high horse just concerned that we’ve arrived en masse and need to do our very best to embrace #MastodonCulture.
Bodhipaksa@miripiri It's a good practice not to forward photos that have no alt text, and to encourage others to do likewise.
I usually write a note encouraging alt text use to three or four users a day, and so far the response has always been positive.
