Hello dear people who read me! My home instance will defederate from mastodon.social and mastodon.online in a little less than a week. The instances are known to be too big, not well enough moderated and thus unsafe.

If you want to follow accounts on safer instances like weirder.earth, you might want to consider moving.

(Weirder.earth is neither the first nor will it be the last instance to take this step.)

I'm still battling with my old  mindset that more followers are better. That I want "influence" and reach more people.

I don't. In the past years I arrived at the conclusion that people don't change their attitudes when they're yelled at by strangers on the internet. Science is with me here.

I was a happy camper here before November 2022. I enjoyed talking about things I love, the things that happen in my life, my struggles. I want to keep doing that. I don't seek an audience. I seek connection and compassion, as that's what I'm offering.

So no. I don't look for more followers or more influence. I want true human connections that need time and effort. I, like most of us, was trained to mistake the number of followers with people with whom I have a connection.
This is worth unlearning.

@TQ I had similar thoughts lately though I still feel the need for "more" of everything. But it's changing. It almost feels like the more I distance myself from Twitter, the more I am able to distance myself from this mindset. Mastodon seems like a far healthier choice in so many respects.
@davevader @TQ Yes, it seems like the personal-connection mindset is stronger here than on the bird site.
