#TootTip please apply a content warning for toots that would be considered inappropriate for polite dinner table conversation.

You know, topics like politics, religion, sex, medical stuff and the like.

Let’s make the most the content moderation options available to us here, and keep it a place where everyone feels welcome.

@Steve Uhoh. I’d discuss all of them at dinner.
@neilcorry out of curiosity, and in the spirit of the reponse taken as being at least partially in jest.. are the other participants all on the same page, or are there healthy debates from a diversity of views? if the latter, sounds like my kinda vibe 😀 the online space is quite a bit different with much of the nuance lost, unfortunately
@Steve Any guest sat round my dinner table would be welcome to talk about anything they like. Difference of views is more than hoped for, it’s expected, with the understanding that a person’s views on any subject can be challenged while never attacking the person.
@Steve see, I get this, but then I see content warnings for pictures of food or pets. That I don't get..

@Calfy this blog post is one of the better ones I've seen discussing the reasons for their quite liberal use

http://v21.io/blog/uses-of-cws

this platform, unlike some others, has consent at the core of its user experience. this includes consent to view stuff that may be upsetting for readers, even if they're boring everyday topics for the poster.

for food, consider someone with an eating disorder. seeing food pop up in their local or global timeline may not be received in the way the poster intended. same goes for pets, someone may have just lost their furry friend.

the #tw lets others opt in

Overall I do very much agree with your sentiments, however, I totally get that different people have different tolerances and this platform has been a sanctuary for many for several years. We should be mindful of that.

Also, I 100% feel anything politics, hate related (most main stream media...), and cross posts from rubbish like wordle needs to be hidden behind a CW 100% of the time.

Oh yeah, and sports, tv shows.. pretty much almost everything that could trigger an emotional response...

@Steve all very good points, and completely understand your point about this place being a "sanctuary". It's going to take a bit to get used to CW everywhere, and to consider what posts may need that added.
