19 November 1943 | A selection took place in the female camp in Auschwitz II-Birkenau. 394 Jewish prisoners were selected. On the way to gas chambers, Bina Braun and Rosa Theberger, who tried to escape and hide, were shot.
The list of selected prisoners was signed by the camp commander SS-Untersturmführer Hössler. A copy of the list was stolen and turned over to the resistance. The picture shows the third page of with the Hössler's signature.
Participation in selections, both at the unloading platform during deportation of Jews & at the camp infirmaries, became one of the deadly duties of the SS physicians in Auschwitz.

The Auschwitz camp complex had an extensive organizational structure, which also included a separate department responsible for protecting the health of both the SS garrison and - at least in theory - the prisoners of the camp.
