The Purple Chicken

In my pre-COVID life, I was a #ragtime pianist, performing at various ragtime festivals throughout the US. I have not performed since 2020. Right now, I’m missing the West Coast Ragtime Festival, to which I’d been invited to perform. I had to say no. I have high risk family members and I can’t risk their safety.

I’m seeing pictures from that festival now on my Facebook feed. Not a single mask in sight. Everyone is partying like it is 2019.

I don’t know if I’ll ever perform again.

@meepmeep001 it must be frustrating for you. I am being more cautious with COVID-19 than nearly anyone else I know. Treatment of COVID-19 does seem to be improving, so perhaps we’ll truly be able to live with it and avoid any serious harm from infection in the future.

@JosephMeyer I hope so, though I’m not holding my breath. I’m waiting for (a) a nasal vaccine with sterilizing immunity, or (b) a preventative for Long COVID. Based on what I’ve read, both are a long way away.

So I’ll just perform on YouTube in the meantime. :)
