Sarah MurphyLot of enthusiasm about an article by Neil in the Mail listing all the reasons why Hunt’s budget kills Brexit. I guess it’s progress of sorts. But woven through every paragraph are the delusions and lies that brought us to this inevitable point where the Brexit fantasies have to be admitted and the only way they can do that is by blaming others for frustrating them, instead of acknowledging that they were always contradictory, arrogant, damaging and ultimately unworkable.
Rory Hegarty@13sarahmurphy I think the Truss/Kwarteng budget was the ultimate endgame/destiny for Brexit. What they set out was the vision Brexiters cherished. It was a disaster and unpalatable to the public. From that point onwards, the juggernaut started to turn back.
@RoryHegarty yes quite possibly. Although that too proved complicated for them because Truss/Kwarteng wanted to boost immigration to boost growth. And yet many Brexiters still cling to the dog-whistle/controlling borders stuff. Ultimately, to Brexit is to choose and no one really likes the consequences of those choices.
@13sarahmurphy Yes that was the biggest contradiction of many: the low tax, small state “Singapore” vision of the UK cherished by the architects of Brexit always needed immigration, but to win they needed to rely on anti-immigrant rhetoric and voters. And some, like Farage, happily hold both anti immigrant and small state views, despite their economic incompatibility. The whole thing was a right wing fever dream. Astonishing it got so far.

Adrian Owlett@13sarahmurphy Probably prudent to remember the slagging off Remain voters were repeatedly given by Andrew Neil. His derogatory comments about FBPE "people" led to him automatically blocking any of us with the handle. Clearly an opportunistic gentleman who intends to keep his backside covered at all times.
