Great article from @JimBright : "So much of careers work has been devoted to encouraging people to self-express through their work – to find their passion (pass the vomit bucket from the left-hand side), or to do something that reflects their personalities and values. Then, when they get to work, they are told to subsume their identities into a soup of compromised mediocrity that is the paper clip team, or the Monday to Fri-Yay team."

Who said there is no ‘I’ in team?

Like so many other metaphors in modern work, the notion of teamwork derives from a lazy appropriation from sport.

@tomassplatch @JimBright Another great share! I'm grappling with this very issue in something I'm writing for young people at the moment. Don't want to sound too cynical, but also want to be real.
@cathitza Absolutely, I currently work as a manager of public guidance services for adults and it is becoming increasingly difficult for me not to be cynical. There is a labour shortage in most sectors now, and I hope this will force employers to improve the conditions, rethink their culture and their attitudes towards employees. I am sick of them trying to promote sh*tty jobs to our clients.
