I have no idea about the tech framework that lies behind my being able to post this

And if somebody explained it to me I wouldn't understand it

But I feel so grateful that people made it happen and are working overtime to keep it going right now

🙏💚

@Molly As I understand it, there are no big, centralised, corporate servers. It's more like a network of home computers, run on a voluntary basis, by people of goodwill and astonishing technical proficiency. Very Green, in fact! Find out who's running your "instance", and tip them a few pounds, if you can.
@richturnermusic @Molly Do you know how to find out who is running your instance?
@ThisStarChild I found that mine just popped up in my Home feed and I just followed them, for tech updates. After a search on your behalf, Kolektiva appear to be American anarchists, so perhaps no single person or pair of admins wants to identify themselves. That's just speculation, though.
@richturnermusic Thank you 🤝 I’ll keep a eye out and see if I can identify anyone
@ThisStarChild I've sent you a 'How to' link. Hope that helps.
@richturnermusic Thank you. I appreciate the trouble you’ve taken to help!
@ThisStarChild @richturnermusic @Molly I don't think I've worked what an instance is and most of the technical language is over my head, but I can use it and yesterday managed to create a list usinf the list feature. I think I like it better than the other place, I haven't closed my account there yet but I will
@Molly @richturnermusic @PatLewis I liking it more and more. Think of an instance like a state. Each state is on its own server, run by volunteers (tip your servers - go to settings, terms of service, about). The states gather in a Federation - Mastodon. You can communicate with other people in other states, but your local area is your state.
